AND THE STRUGGLE CONTINUES

Ferguson Protests

APRIL 28, 2015

I initially, created this page as a result of the Ferguson unrest subsequent to the killing of Michael Brown and the "Black Lives Matter Movement" that made headlines when Eric Garner was murder by police.  In both cases, the rogue cops were not charged. We had the benefit of a video with the latter and eyewitness reports of the former as well as pictures revealing the body of Michael Brown sprawled in the street for some 4 1/2 hours.  Tamir Rice (12 yrs. old) and other victims were also featured on this page. There were commentary and links regarding the senseless deaths of these citizens and  of the two NYC police officers murdered by a deranged man and the show of disrespect for the Mayor by the cops {at their funeral}  for his efforts to investigate and make systemic changes that perpetuate the deaths of unarmed people of color.  There was also a link and picture of a African American female {Cariol Horne} police officer who was fired for trying to prevent a fellow cop from choking a suspect to death.  This blue wall of silence that protects the rogue cops and blurs the line between those who are working within the system as peace keepers continues to be daunting. The former are occupation forces constructed to control and punish those who are in high risk neighborhoods and vulnerable not only to crime in their neighborhoods but by officers who view them as less than human.

As a result of an unfortunate glich; those links and articles were erased.  Oh what came out of my mouth ...##//%%%!!!##!!%>***...as a result of that evokes shameful blushing for I am retired  now and have weathered many disappointments.  My previous years in the trenches as a mental health/human rights/child welfare advocate, medical and mental health therapist and licensed clinical social worker have made it clear that things don't always work out . All I have now is my experiential writings, research  and monetary advocacy.  They seem to fall short as the times are accelerating with tumult, violence and outrage on the domestic front  as well as the global scene. We are all feeling vulnerable!

Ta-Nehisi Coates along with Mychal Denzel Smith, other journalists and social/political critics--- in my humble opinion; are the young critical thinkers that the times are calling for and they have stepped up.  Those of us from previous generations may not always agree or take issue with their assessments of how we struggled as change agents and view this ongoing injustice against people of color and that's o.k..  Stepping stones and foundations are made to move forward and not become stagnate nor regressive.  I will be featuring with commentary  Mr. Coates and Mr. Smith as well as others and provide links to their essays or posts on these trying times.

Ta-Nehisi Coates article on the Baltimore uprising is illuminating and must be shared.

TOWARD A 'NEW BROKEN WINDOWS' THEORY
By
Mychal Denzel Smith

Excerpt:  Whenever there is an uprising in an American city, as we’ve seen in Baltimore over the past few days in response to the police-involved death of 25-year-old Freddie Gray, there always emerges a chorus of elected officials, pundits, and other public figures that forcefully condemn “violent protests.”

State Attorney for Baltimore, Marilyn Mosby

7 Things to Know About Marilyn Mosby

Yes....she filed manslaughter and 2nd degree depraved heart murder charges against the 6 cops. I'm sure she will be scrutinized and villanized for doing her job and for once someone is listening to the people and the victim, Freddie Gray! RIP Mr. Gray
